The cucumber production and market linkage model of An Hoa and Minh Tam Cooperatives has helped farmers improve their incomes, livelihoods, especially for ethnic minorities, and contributed to sustainable agricultural development.
From the starting point of 3.5 ha in 2019, the production linkage has expanded to 18 communes in Tuyen Quang province. By 2022, it will expand the area to 200 ha within 18 communes. Farmer's incomes have been improved significantly, approximately three times higher than before. More than 1,000 farmers, especially the ethnic minorities, have jobs. Crop structure changed with priority shifting from rice, maize to cucumber.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc De, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Extension Center of Tuyen Quang province said:
"Thanks to the production linkage, farmers have more jobs, better incomes, and better living standards. They started changing their mindset and production practices from small, traditional production into commodity production, from individual to collective. It also increases income per unit of cultivated area. The usage of advanced production techniques also helps to reduce costs, improve productivity and product quality in the value chains for sustainable agricultural development."
