In 2020, our Cocoa programme started to take shape in Ivory Coast. In 2021, we worked with 7,937 producers.
Since then, we have been able to scale up our programme, brokering relationships with supermarkets and companies, so that cooperatives can take part in sustainability programmes they have set up and form inclusive business relationships.
Sustainable Cocoa and Coffee programme highlights for 2023
We empowered 105 young people (22 women) with business plans and microfinance connections through the New Generation of Entrepreneurs (NGEP-CI) project. The partnership with the Collibri Foundation (ICT4DEV project) facilitated the training of 509 young people (157 women) in good agricultural practices through the FARMBBOOK platform, promoting knowledge sharing. In addition, a partnership with SUCDEN, FERRERO and HERSHEY trained 291 young people (including 37 women) as agricultural service providers (ASPUs), benefiting 4,647 producers. In addition to youth development, Rikolto promoted sustainable practices. More than 5,000 producers (including 886 women) learned about the Ivorian Forest Code and its benefits for land tenure and tree ownership. This knowledge, combined with training, led to the establishment of 12 nurseries, the production of 94,182 trees and the adoption of agroforestry practices on 4,067 hectares by 3,871 producers (including 226 women).
